The Concept of Entertainment in Islam and Its Importance to Muslims
Many people are of the opinion that the concept of entertainment in islam is not allowed in the Muslim religion. They feel it is an innovation of the western society, which is against the teachings of islam. But in fact, all religions have a concept of entertainment in it. The concept of entertainment in Islam is as old as the religion itself. Entertainment is part of the human mind and human rights.
Everyone is having his own opinion about entertainment. Some people feel that it is prohibited in islam, while others think it is permitted. Some believe in free time as the right of every Muslim and some don’t. They have their own opinion about entertainment and its consumption in islam. However, a question must be asked, what is haram and what is allowed?
Entertainment in islam is not forbidden by the law of Allah almighty. Like the people of any other religion, Muslims have the right to enjoy themselves. In fact it is one of the many things that are included in the list of the legislations of the Islamic religion. It is not a crime or a violation if you are having your fun in Islamic way. And here is the simple explanation about Islamic entertainment in a nutshell.
Entertainment in islam is not considered as a sin in Islam. It is one of the most important aspects of Muslims. It is also one of the few things that are not allowed to be practiced in Islamic countries, but in Islamic nations, it is allowed. For the sake of explanation let’s look into the meaning of muslim entertainment and what exactly is involved.
All Muslims must have their own entertainment. This entertainment is what will keep them away from evil things. All Muslim men and women must spend their free time in muslim activities and events. The types of bulimic events can vary from doing different kinds of jibrae regularly (known as sharia) to spending quality time with family and friends. This is all included in the concept of entertainment in islam.
There are two forms of entertainment in islam which is jibraehr (traditional jesting and free time) and hadith (entertainment). For the purposes of illustration sake, we will use the jibraehr term which is used to define entertainment in Muslim society. In jibraehr, Muslims must perform some kind of jesting or be on a comedy show or perform some dance or musical numbers. In faith, Muslims must listen to hadith songs, watch a film or even read a book. The entertainment value is then measured by how long someone must listen to the hadith or watch the film or sing their favorite song.
Now to move on to the topic of entertainment according to Islamic law. The second form of Islamic entertainment is swt (which means entertainment). Swt can mean playing games, watching television, reading a book, listening to music, playing tennis or playing board games. The rules for swt are the same as those applied to jibraehr but the emphasis is more on fun and enjoyment.
In conclusion, the concept of entertainment in islam is about enjoyment and fun. It is not about being subject to some strict cultural code as is the case with western countries. Muslims are always free to do as they wish and have as much freedom as other people in the world. They can enjoy entertainment as much as non-muslims and their family and friends can. All Muslims must therefore do all that they can to spread the good news to others about entertainment in Islamic terms.
