Most of the T20 players are nurtured in the state of Tamilnadu. Chennai Super Kings has been an integral part of the IPL franchise, winning the league four out of the last five seasons.
Two other IPL teams making their presence felt in the IPL this season are Delhi Daredevils and Kerala Shenhua. Both these teams are considered top side in their respective states and hope to win the trophy this season. IPL 13 was marred by one controversy after another with the IPL franchises from both Delhi and Chennai refusing to leave their respective grounds during the course of the tournament. The Delhi IPL team left for Dubai during the middle of the IPL tournament citing safety concerns. Chennai IPL team later returned to their home stadium, citing security issues. Mention was made by the premier league cricketers of India against these two cities, and they called the matter a major disappointment.
Mention was also made by the IPL commissioner regarding the same issue. He claimed that the players and officials from both the teams were moved out of the state because of safety reasons. In fact Delhi was the host city for IPL 13. It is understood now that most of the Mumbaikars were against this move by the IPL and there are many instances where the crowd rioted outside the stadiums when the Delhi teams were expected to leave. The prime concern for the Delhi IPL team and its supporters is that all the revenue earned will go to the state and not to the Mumbai IPL franchise.
Former IPL champion and IPL franchise holder suresh raina said that while he was happy about the IPL coming to his home country of India, he was not surprised at the way IPL franchise owners have handled the IPL. He even had a list of seven players who will represent the IPL in next year’s season. And then he jokingly said that if IPL franchise owners are so desperate to get fans, they would be willing to pay whatever amount it takes to get fresh raina as their marquee player.
